Which filament do you use? The question you ask us

It’s the question we receive most through our website chat: "what material do you use to print your mounts?". And the honest answer is: it depends.

Not all of our products require the same thing. For most mounts and race number holders, we use a well-known filament in the sector that is highly resistant to the elements — sun, rain, temperature changes — but isn't the most rigid on the market. And that's fine, because not every piece needs the same rigidity to fulfill its function.

GPS mounts are a different story. The demands there are different: they have to withstand constant vibration, the weight of a cycling computer hanging from your handlebars for hours of riding, and do so without flexing or failing. For that, standard filament didn't convince us.

So we got in touch with 3Dfils, a company based in Elche that manufactures filaments right here, very close to us. We worked with them to formulate a filament that is one of the few on the market to include real carbon fibers — not the typical carbon dust found in many "reinforced" filaments which, let's be clear, contributes little to the actual strength of the piece. Real fiber, not technical glitter.

And this doesn't stop at a simple purchase agreement: this filament is exclusive; 3Dfils doesn't supply it to anyone else. They manufacture it in their own factory and manage it until it reaches our hands. No intermediaries, no imports, no depending on a factory on the other side of the world. The entire process — from the filament to the final mount — happens here, in Spain. What a luxury to be able to say that these days.

And what material is it exactly? We prefer not to put a closed label on it. It’s easy to say "it's this polymer" or "it's that one" and leave it at that, but that’s not the part that matters. What really makes the difference isn't the name of the material on a technical data sheet, but how the part is designed and how that manufacturing is executed so that it withstands everything you are going to demand of it.

That's why we don't compete based on material marketing. Our mounts and parts are tested, period. It doesn't matter what we tell you about whether it's the best material or the worst — what counts are the reviews from those who have already used them for months in real-world conditions. And they speak well of us: they work, they look good, and they fulfill their function. That’s enough for us.
